The board of PT decided in the meeting held on 10.1. that the association will follow all regulations and recommendations of the Regional State Administrative Agency, Finnish institute for health and welfare, university and Student Union in its events.


2.       PT x TiK regular sport sessions

PT x TiK regular sport sessions have been cancelled due to the COVID-19 restrictions.


3.       Kaukkari orienteering 11.1.

Due to the COVID-19 restrictions Kaukkari orienteering has been cancelled.


4.       PT Info Channel on Telegram

PT now has a separate Telegram channel for official announcements and news about the association – PT Info Channel! All the most important announcements and news about the association will be posted in the channel from now on, for example about events and the summary of the weekly newsletter sent by email. The board meetings are on Mondays at 18:00 and you are all welcome to follow! You can check scheduled meetings in the association’s event calendar. The meetings will be held in pHuone.

7.       Sustainability in teaching


the school of chemical engineering wants to hear the opinions of students about sustainability and its teaching.

Aalto wants to include the principles of sustainability in technical studies. The heads of studies have discussed about this with the school’s management. Based on these discussions, the school would now like to know your opinion. How much and by which methods should sustainability be taught?

By answering the questionnaire, you can have your voice heard and have concrete effect on teaching in our school in the coming years. You can find the questionnaire here.

Hi all!

We would like to remind you about the importance of study feedback! We can only react to issues concerning your studies if we are made aware of them.

If for example the assessment criteria changes during the course or you have not received your exam results within four weeks, inform the Head of Study Affairs so that they can intervene.

9.       Auditions for the Polytech Choir on January 11th 2022

The Polytech Choir is looking for new members! Auditions for the Choir are organized on Tuesday, January 11th, 2022, at 5–7 pm at Maarintie 8, lecture hall AS2. At the event, you will get to perform an a capella song of your choosing, in addition to which your vocal range and pitch perception will be tested.

11.    Apply for the Aalto-Helsinki iGEM Team!

Are you looking for an interesting and meaningful project for next year? Do you want a chance to create and pursue your own ideas in research?

We are now recruiting Aalto University and University of Helsinki BSc and MSc students to form a new iGEM team to represent Finland in the world’s largest synthetic biology competition, iGEM, held next year in Paris (if the situation next Autumn allows). The Aalto-Helsinki team will design, develop and execute their own research project from scratch and present their results in the Giant Jamboree in November 2022.

What’s iGEM?

Being a part of an iGEM team allows you to plan your own research project from scratch in three phases. In spring, you will get to know your team members and decide on the project you will try to develop during the summer. Team will also reach out to companies and gather funding. The summer consists of practical work and testing your design. In autumn, you will present your project and compete with other iGEM teams for the Grand Prize, as well as other Track and Special Awards.

12.    Alt-protein programme

An 8-week programme organised by Cambridge University Alternative Protein Society and GFI. The programme will cover the fundamentals of alternative protein science and provide career opportunities in the space. The programme will run from 31st January- 27th March. Deadline for applications is 13th January.

Two tracks are available: the Technical Track takes a deeper dive into the scientific research, while the Policy and Entrepreneurship Track focuses more on regulatory hurdles and business opportunities.

The programme involves:

  1. 2-3 hours reading each week
  2. 1.5 hour group discussion per week with a facilitator experienced in the alt. protein space
  3. Speaker events with experienced alt. protein researchers and professionals
  4. A Careers Fair with leading alt. protein companies

Nordic Alternative Proteins, a new organisation, is facilitating the groups in the Nordic countries. Join the programme and be one of the first members of Nordic Alternative Proteins to help create a grassroot student-led organisation.

13.    Space Kimble Tournament 26.3

Is your favorite color blue, red, green, or yellow? Do you like to click on the dice and take action with friends in extremely exciting competition situations? And isn’t space a pretty fun place? THIS IS AN EVENT JUST FOR YOU!

In honor of the 35th anniversary of the Jäynä competition, the SPACE KIMBLE TOURNAMENT will be held on March 26th, 2022 at Trap Factory! Gather 2-4 persons gang and sign up for a 20€ entry fee per team. Places are limited, so it’s worth being even faster than a shooting star! Registration opens 17th of December at 4 pm at https://jayna.fi/en/avaruuskimble. If you do not want to take part in the tournament yourself, you can come to encourage the teams and enjoy the thrill of the race. There will be games and other program during the tournament, more about this later!

The exact rules of the competition will be published later. Each team will be given four Fat Lizard beers upon participation, non-alcoholic options are also available. Covid-19 certifications will be checked from everyone who attends the event.
